Boston Bruins play their first home game in the new National Hockey League.

The Bruins beat the Montreal Maroons 2-1 at Boston Arena, in the first National Hockey League game played in the U.S. Owned by grocery-store magnate C.F. Adams, the team’s original colors of brown and yellow are chosen to match those used in his stores. Art Ross is the first head coach. The Bruins lose their second game of the season two days later 5-3 to Toronto to begin a team-record 11-game losing streak. The team changes its colors to black and gold in 1939.
